Rookery Preserve Trip

There were plenty of Great Blue Herons to be seen and a wonderful talk by Amanda Smith of Hamilton County Parks and Recreation. It was very interesting to dive deeper into an individual species.

Birdathon 2017 Begins!

We look forward to another great fundraising year to benefit the birds of Central Indiana thanks to our generous donors. With your help we will raise the $30,000+ necessary to fund our nine grant requests. This year we have 14 teams competing in the Big Day as well as fundraising. Passenger Pigeon Extinction State Historical Marker

The “Passenger Pigeon Extinction” Indiana State Historical Marker was dedicated in Metamora, Indiana on April 3rd, 2017. The last verified passenger pigeon in the wild was shot about five miles from here near Laurel on April 3, 1902.

Oregon Dark-eyed Junco at Eagle Creek Ornithology Center

An Oregon Dark-eyed Junco has been frequenting their feeders for the past couple of months. This subspecies has a dark hood, a reddish back and light brownish flanks. Be sure to keep an eye out for this cool little bird if you visit the park!
