We are pleased to begin including the Central Indiana Land Trust (CILTI) events on our calendar. These are volunteer days and hikes in the central Indiana region. CILTI has long been a partner of ABAS in helping us fulfill our stewardship mission for the birds. We have contributed well over $100,000 to various land conservation projects.

There are four volunteer days coming up and they’d love some help clearing invasive species. These are two hours in length so they’re easy to do.

We also have two hikes listed. Mossy Point in Parke County is a beautiful nature preserve in the Sugar Creek valley. If you haven’t been there, this is a place not to miss. And being the Friday after Thanksgiving, it’s a perfect way to walk off some of that Thanksgiving turkey! Cliff Chapman, executive director of CILTI and former ABAS board member, will be leading the hike.

The other hike will concentrate on trees at Meltzer Woods near Shelbyville. It’s another beautiful nature preserve. Joanna Woodruff, a CILTI stewardship specialist and current ABAS recording secretary, will be leading the hike.
