SUMMARY:IWF presents Cranes Over Indiana
DESCRIPTION:Join the Indiana Wildlife Federation after work for a casual gathering with food/beverages\, comradery\, music and a presentation from the International Crane Foundation about Indiana’s role in protecting our migrating cranes and their habitats. \n  \nCranes over Indiana: Indiana’s wetlands are home to Sandhill Cranes and endangered Whooping Cranes. In the not-so-distant past\, both Sandhill Cranes and Whooping Cranes faced near extinction throughout North America as they battled with increasing threats of unregulated hunting and habitat loss. Thanks to widespread conservation efforts\, Sandhill Cranes are now one of the most populous crane species in the world and Whooping Crane populations\, while still endangered\, are slowly growing. Today Indiana residents see around 60\,000-80\,000 Sandhill Cranes and 30 Whooping Cranes each year! Unfortunately\, Whooping Cranes and Sandhill Cranes continue to face threats in Indiana and across their flyway. Following this presentation\, you will be able to identify Sandhill Cranes and Whooping Cranes\, know the history of both species\, understand the current work our crane conservation partners are doing to protect cranes in Indiana and throughout their flyways\, and find out how you can be an ambassador for cranes in Indiana as a volunteer and citizen scientist. \n$15 members\, $40 non-members \nRegister HERE \nContact Information \nIndiana Wildlife Federation \nPO Box 55245\nINDIANAPOLIS\, IN 46205-0245 \nhttp://www.indianawildlife.org

SUMMARY:Indiana Young Birders Network December Birding Hike
DESCRIPTION:Come meet and connect with other youth birders! \nAre you a youth birder looking to connect with the Indiana birding community at large? Look no further than the Indiana Young Birders Network. Indiana Audubon’s Young Birders Network (IYBN) is a free community that connects youth birders and nature enthusiasts to the world of birding. Our goal is to create a safe\, fun\, and innovative environment for youth birders to grow and learn through hands-on birding experiences in the field\, educational demonstrations\, and much more. \nJoin us for a birding hike at Conner Prairie on December 9\, 2023. Park in the guest parking lot and enter through the main entrance. We will gather there to sign waivers\, use restrooms if needed\, and do introductions. Birding will last for about 1 hour. \nPlease bring your binoculars if you already have them. We will have a limited supply of binoculars that you can borrow if needed. Dress appropriately for the weather\, wear hiking boots if possible\, and bring some water. \nRegistration is required but there is no fee to attend the hike. Parents are more than welcome to join us. \nIf you have questions or concerns regarding this event or the IYBN\, contact Youth & Community Outreach Coordinator Rachel Brent at rbrent@indianaaudubon.org. If you have questions about Conner Prairie\, contact Michelle Morton\, Nature Engagement Specialist at Morton@connerprairie.org. \nWebsite: https://www.connerprairie.org/ \nPhoto courtesy of Indiana Audubon
