SUMMARY:Goose Pond Area Raptor Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join Scott Enochs as he leads you to Greene County in search of migrating and wintering raptors.  Goose Pond\, and surrounding areas\, in Greene County has become a prime wintering area\, and migratory stop-over\, for raptors such as Northern Harrier\, Rough-legged Hawk\, Merlin\, Golden Eagle\, and Short-eared Owl.  The event will take place on Saturday\, January 6\, 2018.  We will meet at the Kroger located at 1930 East Main Street in Plainfield at 10am and carpool to Goose Pond.  We will stop for lunch at the McDonald’s in Linton before we begin searching Greene County for birds.  We will spend the afternoon and evening trying to find as many birds of prey as possible.  We will remain in the area through sunset in hopes of seeing Short-eared Owls emerge from their daytime roost.  Participants can expect to spend a lot of time driving in their vehicles until we find a raptor to study.  The event is free and open to the public.  Registration is not required\, but is greatly appreciated.  Please contact Scott at 317-850-4801 or msenochs@comcast.net  if you have any questions.

DESCRIPTION:For this Christmas Bird Count meet at the Eagle Creek Park Ornithology Center to pick up  an information packet for your assigned area before heading out to bird. The Ornithology Center will open at 8:00 a.m. A pitch-in lunch for all participants will be held there at noon to tally the bird count and to reorganize groups to head back outside to cover additional areas if needed. \nPlease register by December 13 so that birding teams can be formed and count plans made in advance. SUMMARY:Banding Saw-whet Owls in the Indiana Dunes!
DESCRIPTION:Join speaker Brad Bumgardner\, the Executive Director for the Indiana Adubon Society and previously an interpretive naturalist for the Indiana State Parks\, for our November program. \nThe Indiana Dunes began banding owls as part of Project Owlnet in 2009. The area is a gateway for migrating owls traveling along the shores of Lake Michigan and into the rest of Indiana. Since its inception\, the volunteers and staff have banded hundreds of migrating Saw-whet Owls. More impressively\, the banding station at Indiana Dunes serves as one of the largest sites for public education and viewing due to the facilities near the banding sites. DESCRIPTION:Join Don Gorney for his 18th year of leading fall bird walks at Ft. Harrison. Fall migration is lively and full of warblers\, raptors\, sparrows\, and other songbirds. During the walk Don will point out birds seen and heard and provide details on how to identify cryptic fall warblers\, drab flycatchers\, and LBJ’s (Little Brown Jobs\, also known as sparrows). \nWalks are approximately two hours on relatively even terrain.
