SUMMARY:Celery Bog
DESCRIPTION:Join Matthew Krohn for a field trip to Celery Bog Nature Area. This will be a great opportunity to view early season waterfowl and year-round resident birds. Target birds are waterfowl\, including Northern Pintail\, Redhead\, and Canvasback ducks\, swans\, and geese. In case the bog is still frozen\, no waterfowl has yet arrived or there is inclement weather\, our backup date is March 30\, 2024. \nThe terrain is flat and trails are well managed. The hike will be 2 to 2.5 miles. Restrooms are available at the Lilly Nature Center. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. Dress appropriately for the weather. We’ll meet at 8:30 am in the first parking lot on the right\, inside the park. \nThere is no fee for the field trip. However\, it is limited to 12 participants\, and registration is required. Priority registration is available for ABAS members through March 15\,2024\, at which time if there are any spots open\, registration will be open to non-members. Come experience this rite of spring for yourself as male woodcocks perform their aerial courtship displays for the females in the prairie at dusk! An indoor presentation will take place inside the Taylor Center at 7:00 pm for those interested in knowing more about the life history of this bird. Those interested in seeing the aerial display should meet the group inside the Taylor Center and will be led by a Naturalist from Hamilton County Park starting at about 7:30 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Did you know that Robey Park has “Timberdoodles”?  On Friday\, March 1\, from 6:15 to 8:00pm\, join the Friends of Robey Park\, Inc. and the Amos Butler Audubon Society to experience the amazing courtship display of the male American Woodcock (aka “Timberdoodle”) at Robey Park\, located at 8700 West 30th Street\, Clermont\, IN 46234 on the south side of Robey Elementary School. \n  \nRegistration is NOT required. Park in the Robey Park parking lot and meet at the basketball court (eastside of parking lot) to listen and view the aerial courtship displays. Feel free to bring a chair and dress for the weather. We may go on short walks (optional) for better viewing\, so wear boots as field will likely be muddy. If you have mobility issues\, you will be able to hear and view the aerial displays from the parking lot. Please message the Friends of Robey Park Facebook page with questions. Program may be cancelled due to inclement weather (will announce on Facebook).
