DESCRIPTION:Join a naturalist for a bark ID lesson\, designed for homeschoolers and a guardian. In the wintertime\, trees without their leaves can be very intimidating for identification! Knowing trees by their bark is an excellent way to refine your identification skills and develop a greater sense of place in nature. During our lesson\, we will learn tips & tricks for tree ID and we will focus on color\, texture\, and characteristic pattern differences that will help you learn your trees in their dormant state. Binoculars will be provided to look at bark and birds as we find them and participants will be given a tree ID handout to foster continued learning. Content covered during this lesson & hike is best suited for children 10-14. We encourage homeschoolers to attend due to the time of this program. Pre-registration is required\, $10 per child participant. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian\, who do not need to register as a participant but they must stay for the duration of the program. DESCRIPTION:Join the Greenfield Birders for a day birding in and around Greenfield. We are participating in the 125th National Christmas Bird Count (CBC) in which we will tally every individual bird we find within our assigned region. Don’t worry if you can only come for a couple of hours\, or even just watch your feeders from home. All levels of involvement and skill are welcome. There will be driving and hiking involved if you participate in the field\, so dress for the weather. \nWe will meet at 6:45 am at Jack’s Donuts on Highway 9 in Greenfield where breakfast will be provided. Here we will split up into groups to cover more ground and ensure our teams are prepared. The majority of the field trip will be by car with multiple stops to get out to view birds. Make sure to bring your binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. A limited number of binoculars will be available to lend if needed. \nThis field trip is limited to 10 participants and prior registration is required.
