DESCRIPTION:Each fall\, hundreds of species of songbirds make the perilous journey from their Canadian breeding grounds\, to the jungles of South America. Join Eagle Creek Ornithology Center naturalist\, Aidan Rominger\, on September 29th\, 2023 where he will go through how to properly ID many of these migrating songbird species at night\, by listening to flight calls given by each species. We will also go into depth on how to best view these migrating songbirds under the stars! \nThe first half of the class will be inside in the classroom\, and the second half\, we will go out and listen for any migrating songbirds\, as well as see if we can view them flying past the moon. SUMMARY:Nina Mason Pulliam Ecolab Hike
DESCRIPTION:The Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab is a wonderful place to bird watch\, with over 165 different species sightings being recorded since 2002. No experience is necessary. The field trip will be led by Aidan Rominger\, a well-known birder and photographer. \nWe will meet at the St. Francis statue just west of the Allison Mansion on the campus of Marian University at 8:00 am. The field trip is limited to 10 participants and early registration is offered to ABAS members until September 9 after which time non-members may register if there are any open spots. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars. DESCRIPTION:HELLO BIRD LOVERS!\n\n\n\nBird Safe Indy is hosting training for bird window strike victim data collection/bird rescuing for the Bird Safe Indy (fka Lights Out Indy) initiative of the ABAS here in Indianapolis. August 15 is the start of our fall survey season and it runs through November 15. We need all the help we can get in documenting window strikes!\n\n\n\n\nThey will be meeting in front of the Indiana Department of Correction (302 W Washington St) for demonstrations that may last up to an hour. This will include some walking around nearby buildings. With over 34 regularly occurring shorebird species found in Indiana annually\, shorebirds can be a fun yet challenging group of species to confidently identify. Join Eagle Creek Ornithology Center naturalist\, Aidan Rominger on August 31st\, 2023 where he will go through IDing shorebirds in both fall and spring plumage\, as well as other useful tips that make identifying these challenging birds easy. The first half of the class will be inside in the Eagle Creek OC classroom\, and the second half\, if there is habitat and shorebirds present\, we will go out and look for any shorebirds we can find in the park putting the classroom skills to the test! \nThe workshop will be located at the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center\, and will be held from 5:30pm-7:30pm on 8/31/2023.
