SUMMARY:Homeschool Bark & Birds
DESCRIPTION:Join a naturalist for a bark ID lesson\, designed for homeschoolers and a guardian. In the wintertime\, trees without their leaves can be very intimidating for identification! Knowing trees by their bark is an excellent way to refine your identification skills and develop a greater sense of place in nature. During our lesson\, we will learn tips & tricks for tree ID and we will focus on color\, texture\, and characteristic pattern differences that will help you learn your trees in their dormant state. Binoculars will be provided to look at bark and birds as we find them and participants will be given a tree ID handout to foster continued learning. Content covered during this lesson & hike is best suited for children 10-14. We encourage homeschoolers to attend due to the time of this program. Pre-registration is required\, $10 per child participant. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian\, who do not need to register as a participant but they must stay for the duration of the program. SUMMARY:Eagle Creek Valley CBC 
DESCRIPTION:The Eagle Creek Valley Christmas Bird Count (CBC)\, sponsored by ABAS\, takes place within a 15-mile-diameter circle centered in Eagle Creek Park on the northwest side of Indianapolis. This year the count will be held on Sunday December 18\, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a pitch-in lunch for all participants at the Ornithology Center 12:00pm – 1:00 pm. \n To participate\, please reach out to the count coordinator\, Aidan Rominger\, by December 1 so birding teams can be formed and count plans made in advance. Call the Ornithology Center at (317) 327-2473\, or email aidan.rominger@indy.gov. Stop by the Ornithology Center (6515 Delong Road\, Indianapolis\, IN 46278) to pick up an information packet for your assigned area the week before the count\, December 5 – 10\, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. \n If you are a beginning birder\, you may be able to join a group that includes at least one experienced birdwatcher. In addition\, if your home is within the boundaries of the count circle\, you can report the birds that visit your feeder once you have arranged to do so with the count compiler.
