SUMMARY:Forest Bathing Walk
DESCRIPTION:Forest Bathing\, also known as Forest Therapy\, is a nature-based wellness practice. This experience can be described as a sensory\, immersive\, and slow walk. During a walk\, we will use our senses to “bathe” in our surroundings\, using eyes\, ears\, hands\, nose\, body\, and heart to experience the world around us. This practice will be facilitated by Certified Association of Nature & Forest Therapy (ANFT) Guide & Ornithology Center Assistant Manager\, Donna Riner. During the walk\, your guide will facilitate invitations\, or prompts\, to support sensory connection to nature and provide opportunities for sharing between invitations. We will spend approximately two hours together\, with time built in for walking short distances\, wandering\, exploring\, sitting\, and sharing. Unlike a guided hike\, this walk is short\, covering only a half mile or so. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted the opportunity to observe migrating birds at night? Each fall\, hundreds of species of songbirds make the perilous journey from their Canadian breeding grounds\, to the jungles of South America. Join Eagle Creek Ornithology Center naturalist\, Aidan Rominger\, on Wednesday\, September 18th\, from 7:00-8:30 pm where he will go through how to properly ID many of these migrating songbird species at night\, by listening to flight calls given by each species. He will also go into depth on how to best view these migrating songbirds under the stars! The first half of the class will be inside in the classroom\, and the second half will be held in the field to listen for any migrating songbirds\, as well as see if we can view them flying past the moon using a scope and binoculars. SUMMARY:Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:The Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab is a wonderful place to bird watch\, with over 165 different species sightings being recorded since 2002. No experience is necessary. The field trip will be led by Dr. David Benson. Dave is the Director of the Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab & Associate Professor of Biology at Marian University. \nWe will meet at the St. Francis Colonnade just west of the Allison Mansion on the campus of Marian University at 8:00 am. The field trip is limited to 10 participants and early registration is offered to ABAS members until Aug. 31st after which time non-members may register if there are any open spots. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars. A couple of pairs will be available to lend\, if needed. \nThis field trip is expected to fill quickly. DESCRIPTION:Attention birders! Have you ever wanted the opportunity to improve your shorebird identification skills? Look no further than the Eagle Creek Ornithology Centers Fall Shorebird ID workshop! With over 34 regularly occurring shorebird species found in Indiana annually\, shorebirds can be a fun yet challenging group of species to confidently identify. Join Eagle Creek Ornithology Center naturalist\, Aidan Rominger on Tuesday\, September 24th from 5:30-7:30pm where he will teach how to properly identify shorebirds in fall plumage\, as well as other useful tips that will make identifying these challenging birds a breeze! The first half of the class will be held inside in the Eagle Creek OC classroom. The second half of the program will be out in the field to look for any shorebirds we can find in the park\, putting our classroom skills to the test!
