SUMMARY:Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve is a gem for migrating birds and breeding birds alike in the early summertime. Wetland\, prairie\, and old-growth deciduous habitats have drawn over 180 species of birds including 30 different warblers\, and 21 state threatened or endangered species. Olivia Bautch\, director with ABAS\, will lead this peak-migration hike. \nGuests should park in the preserve’s lot off of Hauge Road. We will meet by the picnic tables near the trail gate. Make sure to bring your binoculars. If needed\, we will have a couple of pairs available to lend.   \nThe field trip is limited to 10 participants and early registration is offered to ABAS members until April 19th\, after which time non-members may register if there are any open spots. DESCRIPTION:Amos Butler Audubon Society and Friends of Marott Woods Nature Preserve are joining together to offer a bird hike at Marott Woods Nature Preserve on Sunday\, May 4\, 2025 from 8:30-10:30 am. The hike will be led by Matthew Krohn and Becky Heck\, both outstanding birders. \nThe preserve is 102 acres that runs along Williams Creek. It has dirt trails and is generally flat terrain. Warblers such as Yellow-throated and Northern Parula should be singing from the Sycamore trees and last year the preserve even hosted a Worm-eating Warbler. \nThe hike is free but advance registration is requested. DESCRIPTION:The Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab is a wonderful place to bird watch\, with over 165 different species sightings being recorded since 2002. No experience is necessary\, and the hike will be led by one of the bird experts at Marian University. The only things that are necessary are binoculars and a little bit of patience! \nWe will meet at the St. Francis statue just west of the Allison Mansion on the Marian campus at 8:00 am . SUMMARY:Southside Bird Hike Old Town Waverly Park and the White River Greenway Trail
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a new bird hike on the south side of Indy? Then please join ABAS Education Chair and experienced birder\, Jessica Helmbold\, for a bird hike along the White River Greenway Trail from Old Town Waverly Park in Morgan County. The hike will take place on Sunday\, May 18\, 2025 from 8:00-10:00 am. \n   This is a hidden birding gem that offers amazing views as the trail winds along the White River. If lucky\, you can catch a glimpse of the Bald Eagles nesting on the other side of the river. Also look for late migrants and birds that usually nest along rivers and streams such as Orioles and Prothonotary Warblers. \n   The hike is limited to 15 people\, is open to anyone\, but ABAS members will have priority until May 1. Participants are to meet at the trailhead parking area at Main St. and Wetzel St. in Martinsville.
