The day will begin at 8:00 am with a bird walk led by Chuck Anderson\, president of ABAS. After the bird walk\, discover more about the flora and fauna that live on and visit University’s land at our Nature Expo. Assistant Head of School Stacey Summitt-Mann and community partners will be on hand until 11:30 am to share information and answer your questions about birds\, reptiles\, amphibians\, and native plants of Central Indiana. \nVisitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the vision for University High School’s Habitat for Community Learning\, including its educational trail system connecting a variety of habitats and ecological transitions\, and our ongoing work to reclaim the wetlands and prairies on our campus for the educational and wellness benefits of our school and the surrounding community. \nA Note on Attire: The Habitat for Community Learning currently varies from mowed trails to moderately rugged terrain. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and comfortable clothing for the Bird Walk and exploration of the Habitat for Community Learning. \nAny questions can be directed to Stacey Summit-Mann at ssummittmann@universityhighschool.org

SUMMARY:Nina Mason Pulliam Ecolab Hike
DESCRIPTION:The Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab is a wonderful place to bird watch\, with over 165 different species sightings being recorded since 2002. No experience is necessary. The field trip will be led by Aidan Rominger\, a well-known birder and photographer. \nWe will meet at the St. Francis statue just west of the Allison Mansion on the campus of Marian University at 8:00 am. The field trip is limited to 10 participants and early registration is offered to ABAS members until September 9 after which time non-members may register if there are any open spots. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars. DESCRIPTION:Birds are fascinating and watching them can be an awe-inspiring experience. Catching a glimpse of these gorgeous creatures can be frustrating. Learning how to identify all of them can be overwhelming Join a Hamilton Co Parks Naturalist and other guest leaders Sunday and Wednesday mornings and we will learn together. This will be a great opportunity for birdwatchers of all levels. You may begin anytime during the season and come as often as you like. Pre-registration is not required. Don’t forget your binoculars! \nThese hikes meet in the north parking lot of Cool Creek Park past the Nature Center.

SUMMARY:Sodalis Nature Park - Fall Migrant Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Scott Enochs\, experienced birder\, field trip leader and IAS board member as he leads you on a bird hike at Sodalis Nature Park in search of migrating warblers and other migrants. Sodalis is known as one of the most productive birding hotspots in Hendricks County. 170 species have been recorded there\, including 34 warbler species. \nTrails through the park are a mix of gravel and dirt and are normally an easy walk\, but interior trails can become very muddy after moderate rain.  Appropriate footwear is recommended. We’ll meet in the parking lot at Sodalis Nature Park. \nThe field trip is free but limited to twelve participants and registration is required.  Priority registration is available to ABAS members through September 16.  After that date\, if any open spots remain\, non-members may register.  To register email Chuck Anderson at chucka1999@aol.com. \nDon’t forget your binoculars. A couple of pairs will be available to lend if needed.
