SUMMARY:Owl Prowl and Woodcock Walk
DESCRIPTION:Head to an early spring night hike to learn about woodcock\, owls\, and other native Indiana wildlife active in the spring! \n\nCome out to the NMP EcoLab to enjoy an evening hike looking for owls\, woodcock\, and to see the handiwork of our resident beaver colony! We’ll start with a hike at dusk\, looking and listening for the elaborate aerial displays and calls of the woodcock that reside in the EcoLab\, do some owl calling\, and look for other signs of early spring wildlife activity! We’ll learn about owl adaptations and the role of owls in the ecosystem\, and will learn some really cool facts about woodcock too. \nAll ages welcome and encouraged! Bring flashlight\, binoculars\, and dress appropriately since we will be outside. \nParking is available near the Allison Mansion and in the Marian Hall lot across from Allison Mansion. We will meet at the St. Francis statue on the west side of the mansion\, and then head down to the EcoLab shortly after. \nThis event is free and family friendly! Woodcocks have a very acrobatic mating display that they perform at dusk\, and West Park offers an up-close view of this display. \nWe will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the northwest corner of the West Park parking lot. SUMMARY:Sparrow Field Trip – Goose Pond FWA
DESCRIPTION:Join Mike Timmons on a trip to Goose Pond FWA on October 8th\, 2016 in search of migrating sparrows. The trip will focus on finding and IDing the variety of sparrows that inhabit the area during fall migration. Attendees can expect to see Song\, Field\, Savannah\, and White-crowned Sparrows. It’s also peak time for Nelson’s and Le Conte’s Sparrows. You never know what the group will run across! \nWe will meet at 6:30am at the Marsh Supermarket located at 2002 Stafford Rd\, Plainfield\, IN 46168. Participants can expect to return to Indy around 1:00pm. \nThis trip will entail walking rough\, uneven ground in the Beehunter and Goose Pond area.
