SUMMARY:September Lake Watch Experience Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join ABAS and field trip leader Bill Sharkey for a Saturday at Lake Michigan to look for fall migrants. This is an opportunity for anyone curious or interested in how to do a lake watch\, to learn from one of the state’s most experienced lake watchers.  \nFor those curious what a lake watch is\, it is an opportunity to witness the southern movement of passerines\, shorebirds\, gulls\, waterfowl\, and if lucky\, witness the power and aerial maneuvering of a Jaeger.  \nThere are three possible Jaegers that have been viewed from a lake watch on Lake Michigan—Long-tailed\, Parasitic\, and Pomarine Jaeger. In September\, our best chances would be to see a Long-tailed Jaeger but a Parasitic is also a possibility. Pomarine Jaegers are seen in late fall\, if at all.  \nThis field trip will take place on Saturday\, September 6 beginning a half hour before dawn and run until 10:00 am Central Time. Participants are welcome to stay longer if desired. Meet at Marquette Park on the sand dune behind the concession stand. A scope is necessary for this field trip as many of the birds will be far out into the lake. Parking is along the side of the road that parallels the lakefront. Getting there early is helpful/essential. \nBe sure to bring sunscreen\, water\, food\, and possibly a folding chair. Plan for the weather and expect the air temperature to be 10 degrees cooler than inland.  \nThere is a maximum of 8 people who can register for this trip. ABAS members will have priority until July 31\, but don’t hesitate to sign up if you are interested as non-members are first come\, first serve. If you wish to come up on Friday\, there are hotels in Porter\, Chesterton\, and Michigan City. ABAS will cancel for severe weather so check communications.  \n  \nRegistration: Email Laurie Voss\, Field Trip Chair at laurievoss25@gmail.com \nWhen registering\, please provide your phone number in case we need to text in the last minute with changes.

SUMMARY:Eagle Creek Park Fall Migrant Field Trip: Full
DESCRIPTION:Fall warblers\, vireos\, thrushes\, and more\, Oh my! \nPlease join outstanding birders Randy and Lisa Vanderbilt for a Fall Migrant Field Trip at Eagle Creek Park on Saturday September 13\, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Fall warblers can be challenging with their variable plumages\, but having experienced birders with you can help to identify them. \nEagle Creek Park is the premier spot in Central Indiana for warblers\, vireos\, sparrows\, as well as other passerines on their way to the wintering grounds. The diverse habitat offers a variety of food for the birds that includes woods\, wetlands\, prairies\, and the reservoir which attracts waterfowl.  \nThis field trip will begin at the Marina which acts as a migrant trap for birds in the morning hours. The Marina is accessed from a turn off in the middle of the park. You can reach it from either the 71st or 56th Street entrances. Other birding sites for the day will be determined as the morning unfolds.   \nThis field trip is limited to 10 participants. ABAS members will have priority until August 15\, but don’t hesitate to sign up if you are interested as non-members are first come\, first serve. To register please email Laurie Voss\, Field Trip Chair at laurievoss25@gmail.com. When registering\, please provide your phone number in case of weather cancellation. \n  \nTrip is Full
