Help us help our birds with Bird Safe Indy’s new postcard initiative!
These postcards—the idea of Bird Safe Indy Chair, Deb Patrick—have already been popular with guests at area events like BirdFest, Black Birders Week, and Earth Day. Here’s how it works:
If you’re a Marion County resident, pick up a postcard at one of Amos Butler’s next events to share with local representatives what bird-safe legislation means to you. Just write your name, zip code, elected official (if you know yours), and a short message, and we’ll mail it to your representative.
If you can’t pick up one of our postcards, you can still participate. Use your own postcard with ours as inspiration, and get creative to get the message across! You can find your representative and mail the postcard directly to them. It’s a simple, delightful way to promote bird safe practices.
Unsure what district you live in and who your councilor is? Go to Indy.gov, enter “find my elected official,” click start, and enter your address.
New to birds and don’t know what bird-safe practices are? Check out this primer on bird collisions from the American Bird Conservancy, get to know ABAS’ Bird Safe Indy branch, read about and sign an ongoing petition for bird safe glass in Downtown Indianapolis, and learn how even Mayor Hogsett has gotten involved!
Let our councilors know we appreciate their time and interest in this topic, and all they do in our communities. Thank you for taking action!
