The President of Amos Butler Audubon Society serves three years and can be elected for a second term. After serving as President, he/she may remain on the Board as Past President.
Executive Committee Duties
- Presides over the Executive Committee meeting.
- Creates an agenda for the Executive Committee meeting that takes place a week before the Board meeting (can be virtual).
- That agenda will then be finalized for the Board meeting.
Board Meeting Duties
- Presides over the Board meeting: calling to order, working through the agenda items, asking for discussion, requesting motions, calling for a vote, and acknowledging the decision and vote count.
- May not make a motion but rather asks others to do so. He/she can delineate the content of the motion.
- Makes sure that the meeting is held to about 1 hour.
- Asks for a vote from the membership at the Tuesday evening program when Board members are nominated.
- Determines the role that each Board member is to take.
- Ensures that all Board members are fulfilling their duties.
Fundraising Duties
- Writes the Annual Appeal letter that goes out every fall. This is the organization’s major fundraiser, and it delineates the accomplishments for the year and requests donations.
- Works with the printing company to get letter mailed out to the entire membership.
- Attends Zoom meetings with other organizations such as:
- Audubon Great Lakes
- Indiana Wildlife Federation
- Hoosier Environmental Council
- Central Indiana Land Trust (CILTI)
- Indiana Forest Alliance
- Is responsible for the Annual Report for National Audubon Society (NAS) due around the first of the year.
- Applies for the annual grant from NAS for $1,000.
- Attends Birdathon Committee meetings.
- Attends Birdathon Luncheon
Additional Duties
- Is often asked to speak or give presentations at libraries, HOA’s, or schools.
- Presents a 2-3 hour birding program for the Master Naturalist class, twice a year.
