Celery Bog Field Trip

Six birders met field trip leader Matthew Krohn for a morning of birding at Celery Bog. Our goal was to spot waterfowl that had been present earlier in the week. After donuts and introductions, the group headed to the viewing platform overlooking the water, only to find the ducks were gone. Except for Mallard Ducks, the only other species seen was a flyover of two Northern Shovelers. Not to be discouraged, the group began birding the wooded area trails. Soon they came upon multiple Brown Creepers, a very vocal Fox Sparrow, and a Yellow-rumped Warbler. Our last stop was to view the resident “celebrity” Eastern Screech-Owl Ruby. She was not present but her mate Grayson, a gray morph, was in her usual spot. In all, 34 species of birds were recorded, thanks to Matthew, which made for a successful bird hike.
