Meet Olivia Bautch

Olivia’s love for birds was realized in fourth grade, as she watched the birds in her backyard tree line and along her rural bike trail. Aided by refence books, field guides and magazines, she became a birder, and in college she decided to turn her passion into a career. While studying for her bachelors in Ecology and Environmental Biology, Olivia assisted with bird banding, monitoring, survey, and atlas programs with her local nature center.

Propelled by a love of educating others about birds and nature, Olivia spent time at both Cincinnati Nature Center and Eagle Creek Park working in environmental education. Through these experiences she became immersed not only in birds but in the rest of the natural world, and gained confidence with program development. By May she will have finished a graduate program in Strategic Communications, with the goal of continuing her career in environmental communications and programming.

Olivia hopes to provide others with accessible and friendly experiences in nature, regardless of ability, knowledge or life list total. She likes to use multiple mediums to teach about the natural world, such as interpretive programming, art, digital media and the written word, and is always looking for the little lessons and inspirations set in nature for us to discover.

When she is not studying, birding, or hiking, Olivia can be found reading, writing, or taking walks- all with a latte in hand. She also enjoys teaching Sunday school and monitoring bluebirds in the summertime. As a frequent writer for ABAS, Olivia is happy to be a part of the board, helping with editorial duties.
