$1500 for the Indianapolis Lights Out Program
Grant to fund publishing and distributing pertinent documents about the Lights Out program to building owners and managers, local businesses, potential conservation partners, and the Indianapolis media. The purpose is to persuade building managers to turn lights out at night to reduce the number of bird kills during migration.

The benefits of a successful Lights Out initiative could be far-reaching for birds that migrate through our state. According to estimates from USFWS, window collisions may account for over 900 million bird
deaths a year in the United States. This is one of the highest measurable causes of human-induced bird mortality. Add to that the amount of energy saved by shutting off unneed-ed lighting, and the conservation return from Lights Out Indianapolis could be enormous.

We need your help to get this grassroots effort rolling. If you’d like to help engage businesses or other interest groups in this effort, please contact James Cole, Indiana IBA
Coordinator and AWBAS Conser-vation Chair, at jcole@audubon.org or (317) 569-0546.
