Monitoring the Whooping Crane Eastern Population
Presenter: Dan Kaiser
While photographing Sandhill Cranes in 2006, Dan saw a Whooping Crane for the first time. His photographs proved useful to the Whooping Crane’s Eastern Partnership (WCEP) tracking team, who were able to ID the birds he encountered. Recognizing the tracking teams’ need for help, he volunteered and has been helping ever since. Today, he has radio-tracking capability and during migration season is in frequent contact with the WCEP tracking team.
From childhood to adulthood, Dan had his eyes turned skyward. As a child he was fascinated with anything that was in the sky. This carried over to adulthood as he served as a US Army helicopter pilot. In the late 1990s he became interested in bird identification, and it was natural for him to use photography as a tool to that goal.
Join us to hear and see Dan’s stupendous results!
