Amos Butler Audubon Society, through the Lights Out Indy initiaitve, is working to save the lives of migratory birds. This photo of a dead Yellow-rumped Warbler taken in October 2009 captures part of the problem faced by migratory birds. Birds do not recognize glass as an obstacle. Glass that reflects vegetation or situations where a bird can see through a building are especially deadly. Excess overnight lighting also plays a role.

This Yellow-rumped Warbler was found dead on a ground floor window sill of the Indiana Historical Society. It probably flew into the window because it thought it was flying to the tree being reflected in the window.
